Rebug 3.55.1 CFW with PS3 Update Package 0.1 & Privacy Patch

This weekend PlayStation 3 hacker wmxp released an unofficial Rebug 3.55.1 CFW with PS3 Update Package 0.1 and Privacy Patch for use with official Rebug Custom Firmware.

Download: Rebug 3.55.2 Privacy Patch for PS3 CFW

From the ReadMe file: This patch will take the original Rebug 3.55.1 PUP file and update it with both the official Update 0.1 and official Rebug Privacy Patch. NO other changes have been made! This is a diff patch only!

AS THE REBUG TEAM HAVE STATED: "If you choose to post links to our software that does not directly link to rebug.me we will seriously consider not release anything relating to the PS3. This includes Rebug and future versions of Rebug. We rely on visitors to our site that visit our ad sponsors to help offset the cost of the server."

The newly patched REBUG_355.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP should have a MD5 of: 7ED26897FA53D1925D385EB188A56D47

Also remember to use the Rebug selector to switch back to normal mode before installing, otherwise the version spoof will prevent 3.55 from being reinstalled.

The privacy patch scans and edits all the PS3's system files looking for any reference to a Sony and/or affiliate domain, and replaces it with "aaaaaaaaaaa", leaving the extension intact.
    The list of blocked domains:

Example: qriocity.com becomes aaaaaaaaaaa.com in the system files. With this patch applied you cannot connect to PSN, do a system update via Internet, receive any game patches directly from starting a game, and most importantly, get all your personal user data sent to Sony.

The PS3 phones home *ALL* the time. Every last program you run is stored in a log called the "pushlist" (google it), and regularly uploaded to Sony's servers. Every website your visit, every change you make... your entire play history is sent to Sony on regular intervals. Even while your PS3 is sitting idle, it's phoning home. This has been covered numerous times before.

As an awesome bonus, Multiman's game update feature does not go through the firmware system files, and will still download game update packages just fine with this installed. This for me, is ideal.

To check if the patch is working, try clicking Online Instruction Manuals, and take a look at the url at the top. It should read: "http://manuals.aaaaaaaaaaa.net"

Trying to login to PSN, check for updates via internet or anything else that tries to connect to Sony's servers will popup with a DNS error.

PS3 Rebug CFW developer Cyberskunk added the following, to quote: "This works but is unofficial and will not be supported by Codename: Rebug Team.. THERE IS NO REBUG 3.55.2 EVEN WITH THIS PATCH.."

This is an unofficial patch, and everything it does can be accomplished using official REBUG tools, I repeat it is not an official 3.55.2 REBUG.

Me - off to register aaaaaaaaaaa.com/.net/.org etc and setup a PS3 info harvesting farm.

    - jk, but seriously it wouldn't be hard for sony to do the same - they'd then have a nice list of IP addresses to pass to their lawers

Ok, so you'd just change it to bbbbbbbbbbb next time (or something else) but hey.

Maybe you should set it to the rebug click through sponser - get tons of cash for PS3 clicks ! (wow, there's an idea - kerrrrrrrrrrrCHING!)

Arrow Unofficial Rebug 3.55.2 with Update Package 0.2, Privacy & Optional $Bling$ Patch

Here are some more unofficial Rebug CFW patch updates for those following via wmxp: psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94316#post901173

    Download: Rebug_3.55.2.u02_Privacy_Patch.exe / Rebug_3.55.2.u02_Privacy_$Bling$_Patch_v2.exe / CodenameRebugDynamicTheme.p3t / Rebug Flying Logos v1.0.p3t / NuBiXx coldboot2.rar / Original V2 Rebug coldboot.rar / Rebug V2 Sound.rar / NEW With Classic Bug Sound.rar

Finally got around to updating my combined patch after getting a few requests. My original patch I labelled as "Rebug 3.55.2", with my reasoning at the time being 3.55.1+0.1, but since Rebug officially has a new 3.55.2 now, one might get confused. This new patch is for 3.55.2 official!

While I can't speak for everyone, Update Package 0.2 was not updating Rebug Selector 1.5 to 1.6 on any of the machines I tested it on. Only the included vsh.self updated correctly. This update patch will upgrade the selector to 1.6 correctly in the flash.

Users who used the privacy MFM task, and then applied the Update 0.2 after will be lacking the aforementioned vsh.self with privacy patching. This patch fixes that problem.

    Privacy $Bling$ Patch!

This patch will add a custom Rebug dynamic theme and Rebug coldboot background & audio, in addition to the regular privacy patch changes!

Update: Ver2 - Now creates the new PUP from a stock 3.55.2 like the regular Privacy Patch. I should have done this from the start. Hopefully will solve any problems anyone was having.

    MD5 Checksums:

    Original REBUG_3.55.2_PS3UPDAT.PUP = 2FCDDC377A01F9B9ED82475B2FFA97BE
    Converted to REBUG 3.55.2 + Update 0.2 Privacy = 4975A904916529FA646C3ED02844BF14
    Converted to REBUG 3.55.2 + Update 0.2 Privacy $Bling$ = 67051FC8808FDEC8417EF6D603B727AF
