    Question PS3 CFW for broken blu-ray drive

    i have just resurrected a phat ps3 and the blu-ray laser is dead. is there a way to play my backups i have on my slim on the phat without fixing the bluray? what cfw and what manager if its possible at all.

    Try using the MFW tool to create your own CFW. I think it has an option to disable checking the BD drive. That is the only option I know of.

    Thanks.. i never used it before but i'll see what i can do. any chance of bricking my ps3 using this?

    This has to be done in linux? the blu ray just won't read disks anymore so i can update no problem (just went from 3.15 to 3.41 with no issues)

    There is a version of the MFW tool for windows. I don't remember it creating any bricks, just has a bug with saved games be copied to USB.

    Try the normal Kmeaw update first, if that doesn't work then try the MFW.
