Videos: PS3 Slim is Slower Than the Original PlayStation 3?

As previously reported, we know that the the PlayStation 3 Slim uses half the power of its 'Fat' counterpart.

Now reports are coming out of the popular Japanese blog Ore-teki (linked above) that the PS3 Slim may actually be slower than its bulky predecessor.

Of course these differences may be caused by differences in harddrive, but in this case the maker of the video claims the same 7200RPM HDD is installed in each... which leaves room for firmware/hardware variations or simply random fluctuations.

Whatever the cause, it seems unlikely Sony will be admitting any undocumented performance difference between the models.

Below are some PS3 HDD and Blu-ray speed comparison videos demonstrating the apparent differences:

Ya, results seem a bit mixed to me as well. Videos #1 and #2 the Original PS3 seems faster, but in #3 and #4 the PS3 Slim seems faster.

Perhaps something got lost in the translation... if anyone can clarify what they are demonstrating in both sets of videos here it'd be appreciated.

Google says for the first two: "Result, the new videos as long as the PS3's slow start like the old better than"

For the second two: "Here are the new videos as long as the PS3 is like an early start - better than the old"

did you put the title of the heading wrong? or they messed up the naming of the video..

Yeah. The old ps3 boots faster but the slim loaded the game faster. Strange still is the fact that the slim didnt show the "playstation" bit before loading the game in the second to last video. That may be the reason for it loading faster there.

The differences loading batman can also be down to harddrive density (it installs on ps3) or just differences in HD performance besides their specifications. I really hope its not the bluray drive that has a difference that sony lied about/didn't mention. There is always the risk (because i hate being outdated) they improved the bluray drive seek times or other speed related aspect besides its read read speed.

Definitely not that, it's even on N4G the way I put it: http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-386112.aspx

i watched the video and indeed the "slim" version loads batman faster... it could be that on the "slim" version the batman game was installed on the hdd and in the "fat" ps3 it hasn`t been installed. just a thought.

another think i`ve noticed is in the "fat" ps3 the picture in batman looks a lot more vivid, but that could be tv settings . maybe the author of this video can give his remarks on that...

Indeed, there are over 300 comments on the source link (http://blog.livedoor.jp/jin115/archives/51560030.html) but sadly I can't read Japanese to really follow what they are all saying. Hopefully someone here can get the jist of it though..
