July 6, 2007 - Ever since the PS3 launched last November, sites around the Internet have continually proclaimed an inevitable price drop for the system. The rumors reached a fever pitch earlier this week, when both Circuit City and Gamestop advertised price drops for PS3s that vacillated between $100 and $200 dollars from the standard retail price of $599. While the Gamestop newsletter announcement was debunked by the company shortly after it was released, the Circuit City ad energized boards with its proclamation of a hundred dollar price drop in two weeks. Could this be another mistake, or could it be the harbinger of a more affordable system? We contacted SCEA representatives, who denied the possibility of a price drop, adding that they do not comment on rumors or speculation.
"We haven't made any announcements on pricing changes regarding PS3," stated a SCEA spokesman. Looks like you'll have to save up your pennies for quite a bit longer, kids. It's not coming down in price anytime soon.
