Tokyo, Aug 8, 2011– Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. responsible for business operation in Japan, today announced that it will release a HDMI Cable (2.0m) for PlayStation 3 (PS3) on September 8, 2011, at a recommended retail price (RRP) of 1,800 yen (including tax).

Along with HDMI cable (3.0m) already available on shelves, this HDMI cable (2.0m) will further broaden the peripheral line-ups for the PS3 system, allowing users to choose the most appropriate options for their home environment.

SCEJ will continue to further expand the PS3 platform along with exciting line-ups of software titles and peripherals and create a new world of computer entertainment that is only possible on PS3.

Heh indeed, especially following the previous news requiring people (AACS standards) to use an HDMI cable to play a game or watch a movie in HD... luckily sites like exist to get decent HDMI cables dirt cheap, eh?

Early reports from Japan indicate that using a PS3 cable will re-enable Other OS and Backwards Compatibility.

Oh Sony, it is Blu-ray, not Blue-ray. You're one of the "Blu-ray Group" and can't write it right, although you're in that group for nearly 10 years. That's embarrassing.

same with the charging bay you can buy from sony and energizer there both the same price but the sony can ONLY charge 2 controllers while the the energizer can charge 4 controllers looks nicer AND glows red for charging then green when full.

you watch 1 month after launch they will have an "optional" FW update that makes it so the PS3 will only function with THEIR HDMI cables
