May 3, 2007 - Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that it will be forming a new team designed around the licensing of intellectual properties in order to expand its business development organization. SCEA hopes that this will increase awareness of the brands associated with the company and garner new collaborations with outside business partners.
The director of this newly-fabricated team, Shelly Gayner, will manage it in its duties of licensing the PlayStation brand and the first-party characters associated with the brand for "merchandise and entertainment products." Gayner will also oversee the licensing of peripherals and accessories across all PlayStation platforms.
"Shelly has the perfect blend of legal expertise and videogame industry knowledge which will help us grow the PlayStation business by introducing our valued brands to a wider audience," said Phil Rosenberg of SCEA. "We now have a dedicated team to help us capture licensing and revenue opportunities, which is important to our business and long-term growth."
The end result for PlayStation users may be not be all that tangible; although you might be seeing Kratos-branded fruit snacks sooner than you think.
