March 13, 2007 - Today Nielsen/NetRatings released its most recent market research, which finds Nintendo.com enjoying the most traffic growth on the Internet among the three console manufacturers. Compared to traffic in February 2006, Nintendo's site saw an increase of 91% in February 2007, with 1.6 million unique visitors.
Although it came in second-place, Xbox.com also saw a year-over-year growth of 47%, from 827,000 uniques in February 2006 to 1.2 million in February 2007. PlayStation.com was the only site to see a drop in traffic, falling 8% from 1.1 million in February 2006 to one million in February 2007.
The data compares only the three first-party console sites and does not include independent media sites. Here at IGN we have also seen a significant rise in Wii traffic, although our Xbox 360 channel still sees the most traffic.
The report also contains some interesting demographic information about console owners. According to Nielsen's findings, we are mostly married with children, our favorite online retailer is Best Buy, and we just love going to theme parks. Get out of our heads, Nielsen!
