July 24, 2007 - What do Phil Harrison, David Hayter, Shinji Mikami, Stan Lee, Harry Gregson-Williams, and Shigeru Miyamoto all have in common?
The answer is, none of them were at today's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party in Tokyo.
But they were good enough to send a few kind words to Kojima and the staff that have given us 20 years worth of stealth action.
We've posted the video messages in full form on the media page below. But a couple of warnings before you make the download. Stan Lee, Gregson-Williams and Phil Harrison delivered their messages in English, but Mikami and Hayter decided to go the Japanese route. That's right, the English voice of Snake tried his hand at Japanese! His segment is somewhat of a skit, so it's still worth watching even if you don't know what he's saying.
Also, the guy in the Miyamoto section isn't actually Miyamoto. The father of Mario and Zelda delivered a text-based message, and that's the MC reading it. Here's what Miyamoto had to say:
"Congratulations on the 20th anniversary. It's also been 20 years since our Mario became Super, so the ages aren't that different. From here on out, let's not lose out to the young [producers] and continue to be active [in game creation]."
The video messages you see here represent just a sampling of the game industry power-players who honored Kojima and crew at today's event. We also saw Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi (Yakuza, Daytona), Dragon Quest's Yuji Hori, Microsoft chief Xbox manager Takashi Sensui, Grasshopper Manufacturer's Suda 51 (Killer 7) and many others.
But most of them seemed to be simply enjoying the night, so we only turned our cameras on the pre-recorded videograms. Enjoy!
