Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Jumps Onto PSN Today
Black Forest Games Community Manager Dietrich Limper announced that Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams jumps onto PSN today with details below.
To quote: Good news! Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is available today, 19th June! Now that the wait is over, we'd like to share with you the history behind The Sisters.
Armin Gessert (code), Manfred Trenz (graphics) and Chris Hülsbeck (music) were the masterminds behind the original The Great Giana Sisters back in 1987. Their company back then was called Time Warp Productions and the final game was published for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, MSX2, and Commodore 64 by Rainbow Arts.
The Great Giana Sisters is a 2D side-scrolling arcade game in which the player controled either Giana or her sister Maria. Each level contained a number of dream crystals which awarded points to the player. Enemies could be defeated either by jumping on them or shooting them after obtaining power-ups. The "Fire Wheel" transformed Giana into a punk with the ability to crush rocks by jumping beneath them.
As you can see, these old concepts of the game are still in place in 2013, especially the change to the punk version of Giana, but let's get back to the old days.
A certain other game publisher became aware of the game and the success and wasn't too happy about this tongue in cheek version of one of its hits. To avoid a very expensive lawsuit, Rainbow Arts opted to remove the game from the shelves and since then it has become a collector's item and acquired something of a "cult" following.
In 2009 the sisters came back to life when DTP Entertainment published a completely new version for the Nintendo DS, created by Spellbound Interactive and Bitfield, still under the supervision of the famous Armin Gessert. To everyone's surprise Giana Sisters DS was a success story - there were still many fans out there and they loved the re-birth of this old title.
Now, in 2013, the sisters are back in action once again. Poor Maria has been captured by a very mean dragon from another dimension and Giana has to hunt the beast and rescue her.
Everything happens in a dream world where nasty enemies and tricky obstacles try to prevent Giana from her mission. You also have to collect crystals to open up the gates for new levels until you finally face the dragon and defeat him.
But Giana comes with a set of skills that will help you on your exciting journey. The "cute" Giana with blonde hair and a light blue dress can jump and twirl, while the "punk" version of Giana with flaming red hair and torn stockings can dash and destroy certain parts in the dream world.
You must study your surroundings and decide which Giana you would like to use. You can switch between her personalities in a heartbeat, but along with Giana's persona, the world around her also morphs.
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a classic platformer where you make use of all your skills and have to rack you brain. We hope you enjoyed our little introduction to Black Forest Games and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams. In case you decide to check out the game on your PlayStation we wish you tons of fun and many hours of joyful entertainment. Game on!

See, these kinds of games are needed more. They need to have more games that focus on high detail and the little things. Having everything change gradually (but swiftly) when transforming and twisting the worlds is an example of how small games can outdo the big dogs.
