Contrary to the announced September 1st release date, GameStop will have the PS3 Slim consoles in stock starting on Monday, August 24, 2009.
To quote from GamerVision.com (linked above): "The biggest news of course isn't the fact that the system is slim, nor that it's only going to be $50 more expensive than a Wii, but that Gamestop will have the PS3 slims in stock starting on Monday, August 24th.
While Sony said the console would be available everywhere by September 1st, they didn't say that it would be available as early as this upcoming Monday. We've contacted our local Gamestop, and found that pre-ordering it at the video game retail juggernaut will cost $50, but at least that comes off the final purchase price, and guarantees that you'll be getting what's likely going to be the holiday's hottest commodity."
