May 31, 2007 - With all the videogames released each and every month, it can be a difficult task to decide on which title to spend your hard-earned money. Granted, you could always go by our review scores alone and weed through the long list of names to find something that scored high or low, but what if you had somewhere else to turn?
Rather than wait until the end of the year for our big award blowout, we've created this monthly tribute to the weeks that were. The entire PlayStation Team has come together so that we can tell our readers what we thought was the very best game for each system last month... and why. Though some of us often chime in with our comments at the end of reviews, for the most part, the reviews on IGN are primarily written by one editor. In this feature we had every editor on the channel vote for a single title. What better way to represent a team is there than to speak your collective minds?
How does it work? It's simple. Any game released in the past month is eligible for the award and is taken through a battery of tests by every editor on that particular channel. After we've finished evaluating each game we put our heads together and decide on a single "best of" winner that's worthy of the title "IGN Game of the Month." Pretty straightforward, don't you think?
Now that we have the guidelines out of the way, let's move on, and congratulate this month's winner...
Why We Picked It: Calling All Cars! is nothing if not pure, unadulterated fun. It's rugby with cars, hot potato on crack and a trash talker's dream come true. It's almost easily the best game on the PlayStation Network thus far and gives the online service its first true answer to anything seen on Xbox Live Arcade. Calling All Cars! is action-packed and relentless while also incredibly accessible. Every game we've played in the office has seen IGN staffers screaming at the screen and anyone nearby, which in this case is a true sign of just how good it is.

Reader Review Quote: "Although it can be a bit repetative Spiderman 3 is very very enjoyable and it seems every mission I complete it gets better. With extra bosses than the movie epic activision show how to make a real spiderman game and overall not a bad game."(Read the full review)

Why We Picked It: MLB '07: The Show carries over the same great mechanics that you'll find in the current-gen version and features a number of solid online features. As well, Road to the Show is a good addition to the already plentiful options. Simply put, it's the best baseball game on the system.
Other Games Worth Noting in May:
A few of May's titles were rather disappointing, though we still saw a couple solid releases in this month's winner and runner-up. June should hopefully be a stronger month with a number of big titles scheduled to hit the system, including The Darkness, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Transformers: The Game and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas (finally!).
