[IMGW]http://media.1up.com/media?id=3364026[/IMGW]Analyst group Janco Partners, while presenting an overview of Activision's first-quarter earnings (and forthcoming prospects), suggested that the Guitar Hero franchise will expand to incorporate new instruments during the 2008 calendar year, due to competition from forthcoming Harmonix-developed rival, Rock Band.
As reported by Gamasutra, Janco called Rock Band "a compelling option for the music oriented category beginning in holiday '07, which will pressure Guitar Hero's growth." Expanding on that point, the group added, "That said, we expect Guitar Hero to follow a natural product evolution by adding additional music peripherals in CY08."
While such a move might finally find a legitimate use for that mysterious port on the Xbox 360 X-Plorer guitar, we wonder what (if any) instruments could be added in a way that doesn't feel like they're simply copying the Rock Band formula. With luck, Neversoft will seriously consider developing Sousaphone Hero.
