Square Enix: Final Fantasy XIII for XBox 360 to Ship on 3 DVDs
Square Enix has confirmed to VG247 (linked above) that the XBox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will ship on three DVDs in March, 2010.
The news comes after it was US retailer Gamefly listed the RPG at three discs overnight.
To quote: "Yes the game is on three DVDs for the 360," a Square rep told us.
It was also confirmed to us that you're not going to be doing too much ejecting during play.
"Players will only have to swap discs twice during their entire game," said the rep.
Final Fantasy XIII will release in the west for PS3 and XBox 360 on March 9, 2010.
More PlayStation 3 News...
That is a bummer that microsoft did not include a better option on the 360 but it has enabled it to be hacked so i can bear with it.
I hope to have the models converted before the 360 release.
Reminds me of the old days on the PS1, 3 discs for FF7, 4 discs for FF8 and 9.
3 dual layer DVDs... I wonder why it takes up so much space. Hopefully because it's a ridiculously long game! I'll make sure to pre-order it for the PS3, which I'm assuming will be a single dual layer BD.
But does anyone know the actual reason why it takes up so much space? I heard the PS3 version will have lossless audio (although how much space could that possibly take?), what about the 360 version?
FF13 is not long game, just big movie.. so per disc have game data plus movie, is ok
3 disc... hmm just look like Bluray movie rip to HD wmv to save space.
I wonder how they are going to do backtracking if u have to put a different disk to go back to an area already clear or if they where able to add every single area on 1 disk.
as far as i know no other ff games had this problem, the keep video / story etc etc on the new discs plus the basic stuff, in my opinion ms shouldn’t have had a go with this title, it should have been a ps3 exclusive, its lost so much content and had so many delays due to the 360 version, ahh well never mind its nearly here now
And this has nothing to do with it being multi-disc. As mentioned above, FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX all had multiple discs, even more than FFXIII, and they all had backtracking. Since the majority of the disc space is used for movies, it's no problem at all to have all locations on every disc.
And this urban myth of lost content because of the 360 port is just too funny. They just went and deleted the stuff, didn't they? "Damn, we made all this extra quests, additional characters and minigames and now we have to throw them away." - I don't buy it.
Unless you claim that extra content was another few hours of movies (as if the game didn't already had enough of them), there is no reason at all for it to be scrapped to make a 360 port. I repeat: there is no problem with backtracking and nonlinear gameplay and multiple disc, past Final Fantasies are proof of that.
Sheesh, you make me feel so old. :-)
Kids these days, whining about games having multiple discs! Back in ... *grumble* *grumble*
I don't know why they didn't do like forza 3 "you install the second disc and play only with one!!! that would be much better of swapping disc!
Weren't there rumors about the game lacking in-town content (or towns at all?)
Now that I think about it, things like certain doom in form of a giant meteor hanging in the sky on the verge of crushing into earth never stopped Final Fantasy protagonists from enjoying casinos and spas before. Seems SE went for realism this time.
But as an option, it's a good idea. Speaking of which, does the "install game to hard drive" feature of NXE support multi-disc games? If so, I'd say problem solved.
