SDCC 07: THQ Booth Breakdown
July 27, 2007 - With Comic-Con ever-growing into a gaming show we - along with many other press outlets - stepped onto the showroom floor expecting gaming goodness by the boatloads, and while we got just that, most of it consists of the same E3 builds we saw just two weeks ago. True, Comic-Con is becoming the unofficial "E3 after-party," but at least that means we've got even more time with all the hottest games of this year, right?
Sure, other booths might have had more games at Comic-Con, but THQ has a beefy guy dressed up like Conan and a girl dressed up like one of Conan's bikini-wearing wenches standing around posing for pictures and generally looking a bit awkward.
Unfortunately for you, Comic-Con is a crowded, smelly, loud, smelly, somewhat expensive, smelly little event, and it isn't exactly cost-effective for everyone to fly out to San Diego just to play a few rounds of Heavenly Sword, Super Puzzle Fighter, or Zack & Wiki. For that reason we've whipped up the "Booth Breakdown," our own little virtual tour of each of the Comic-Con booths. You get the experience of Comic-Con without the nauseating stench, and we have a good reason to stalk the hot cosplay chicks for the 20th time; it's win/win. Enjoy.
Oh, THQ had games too:
- WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 (360)
- Conan (PS3, 360)
- Stuntman: Ignition (360) Avatar: The Last Airbender -- The Burning Earth (360)
With the exception of Avatar, all of these are E3 builds, but that hasn't put a damper on the audience's reaction. Anytime you walk by this booth, which is clear across the San Diego Convention Center from the event's front doors, there are gaggles of fans standing around and repeating "Oh my God" while watching somebody play SmackDown. Conan's always got a line, too, as people meander by and suddenly get caught up in the bloody head-slicing action.
