It's hard to fall in love with the Classification Board, because no matter how hard you try to like them, they seem to continually insist on providing reasons for gamers to shake their heads.
It was only a matter of time before they returned to their old habit of doing what they do best: dishing out the 'RC' stamp.
This time round, the game in question is called NecroVision; an FPS set during World War I that pits players against demons, vampires and zombies, as well as the obligatory waves of German soldiers. The dishing out of the refused classification stamp may not be a terribly bad thing in regards to this particular title, as its Metacritic rating is currently sitting at 59.
It does, however, highlight once again the need for an R18+ rating for Australian games.
Unlike most Down Under game bannings, we don't have to wait to hear why the Classification Board has turned its thumb down at NecroVision. According to Gamespot, excess violence was to blame for NecroVision not making the cut. The Board had the following to say:
"When the player shoots an enemy combatant, a large volume of blood spray results and the enemy may be dismembered or decapitated. Injury detail is high with pieces of flesh seen flying from bodies when shot or a high level of wound detail visible on bodies. Post mortem damage occurs when bodies are shot resulting in blood spray, dismemberment and decapitation."
Publisher's submitting violent games for classification Down Under beware! It looks as though the cycle of bannings has moved off sex, away from drugs and back to ensuring the gaming public is sheltered from violence.
