October 26, 2009 // 1:04 am - This weekend a RayModeler video of Sony's new 360 degree 3D hologram display in action surfaced via GameTrailers.

This cylindrical concept can be viewed from all angles, and was on display at Tokyo's Digital Contents Expo just before the weekend.

Still under development, the prototype is about 10.6-inches tall (and 5.1-inches in diameter). Sony doesn't seem quite sure what to do with it at the moment, but says it's considering various uses, like digital signage, or even a digital photo frame for the home.

It only supports a 24-bit, 96 by 128-pixel stereoscopic color image right now, but you don't need glasses to see the 3D effect.

Those interested can check out a picture of the new device and a video of it in action below!

Like the man said, this could be adapted to work in an educational system. Imagine a classroom full of children sitting in a circle naming various objects and fruits.

At a quirky game show (the Japanese are experts in this field). Or in the middle of a store fixed to the ceiling, portraying a product.

An LCD would probably be cheaper, tho.

it's a cool piece of hardware, but what does this mean for future gaming? Not much I think.
