Jamie MacDonald, the vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe, said: 'I can't remember the last time I employed someone from them.'

To quote: But Skillset, the body that represents the 'creative media' industry, has only approved four courses as fully meeting employers' needs.

Meanwhile Britain, which gave the world Lara Croft, the heroine of Tomb Raider, is losing its hold on the global games market, worth an estimated £18billion a year. More than 200 British firms

are backing 'Games Up?' - a campaign to highlight threats to the UK industry, such as a shortage of suitable graduates.

David Braben of the Frontier Developments studio said he was 'shocked and surprised' at how little some graduates knew.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills said it was down to the individual institutions to decide course content.

This is interesting to me personally I've been wondering about this for quite some time now, as I am someone who has been receiving an education for a degree in this area.....but I couldn't help wondering if it was REALLY necessary!

I already know what they "teach" me in class....and the only reason I have not yet submitted my DEMO reel to any developers (1rst, and/or 3rd party) was because I was working under the assumption that a degree was a quintessential aspect of attaining this career choice....I know Insomniac studios DEFINITELY looks at having a degree as a major PLUS... although granted this was not a U.K. division, or related to the man in the article!

Maybe I will send my reel to Mr. whatz itz from the article and see if I can't get an earlier-than-expected entrance into my DREAM JOB!!!!! (regardless, I will ALWAYS go to school for the rest of my life....even after I start my career; provided there are subjects I'm interested in tackling! and there are quite a few!!! )
