May 25, 2010 // 9:44 pm - Today JoyStiq (linked above) reports that Sony is planning to officially reveal the rumored Premium PSN+ service at E3 2010 for $9.99 a month, which VG247 hinted at last week.

According to SCEE President Andrew House, this information appears to be accurate based on his recent response, to quote:

"I can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a free service. It is something that our competitors don't offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation Community.

However, Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. You'll learn more about it very soon."

From JoyStiq, to quote: "Joystiq has been informed that PSN+ subscribers will also have the ability to enable an auto-patching feature, which will detect, download and install updates for recently played PS3 titles on the system.

As PSN+ subscribers, gamers will also receive protection for their consoles with the recently announced PlayStation Protection Plan, as well as exclusive access to the long-awaited cross-game voice chat. Additional features are said to be in the works following the launch of PSN+, including the previously rumored cloud-based saving system.

Pricing and a release for the PSN+ service is unknown, though one source speculates PSN+ may cost $9.99 per month. When contacted, a Sony representative said the company does not "comment on rumors or speculation."

$10 a month for 3 or 2 features? I can imagine that Sony will sometime turn into XBL... I was also thinking, that $120 is more than what live actually is right now? They should surely add at least 5 features or more for the PSN+ service.

I'm somewhat interested in finding out what they're going to offer, but at the same time I doubt I would pay that price for anything gaming related. The Live system is basically why I chose the console that I have. It's not like I can't afford it.. I'm just a cheapass I guess, two years on ps3 and I have yet to buy anything from the PS store.

10 dollars a month may not be bad for the premium gaming service, usualy sony is pretty good at sweetening the deal (look at Qore they are constantly giving away psn games/early demos/ beta keys)...

After reading through this thread ive heard this sentiment a lot but you got to remember "IF" Sony is going to announce a "premium" content service at E3 why would they leak all of the details and get rid of the shock and awe... i guess my point is all that we hear on this subject is speculation for the moment...

Now "IF" sony dose announce this "Premium Service" then i hope that it will come with a nice feature like inproved cross game clan support/the ability to host private clan servers for current games... (i've played CS for too long im useto playing on private servers with friends and clans)

Instead of Sky (because MS now have a contract with them) they should try... Virgin Media?

$10 is pretty high considering the low amount of *things* you get.

$10 a month.. they could atleast offer some better services, like more friends on friends list etc also they should bring back different OS's. They could also make a deal with SKY tv like xbox have, I think that would be good and would actuallly make people want to pay this price.

And bandwidth is bandwidth whether its being used via a PC or PS3. If steam can give us this and more for free then so can you Sony.... I'm not paying for a service that isn't even going to cost you anything. Its like charging me a month for air, screw that.

...then don't.. it's OPTIONAL, just be grateful you dont have to pay for everything *cough* Xbox Live *cough*

and its not free to host servers, pay for more people, more maintenance work etc.

Yes it is a good idea because this is optional, but not required and those who do not like to buy a movie etc for sony that will not add to their profits.
