April 7, 2010 // 2:13 pm - Here is a video demoing my "custom firmware". I would have added something showing off the new features of 3.21, but oh wait, there aren't any.

This can be installed without having to open up your PS3, just by restoring a custom generated PUP file.

It's possible this CFW will also work on the slim to actually *enable* OtherOS; I'll know when my infectus gets here.

No release date yet, use the proxy hack to play online with 3.15

Note to the people who removed OtherOS, you are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into "hackers."

ISO loaders will probably never be seen on the ps3 due to the 4gb limit from the file system. bear in mind that cfw will only be usefull for this if we can wright unsigned code that will run in the cfw. if the cfw still requres sony signed code (high probablilty of this since geos custom firmware is just a highbrid of two official firmware updates) which would put us at a point were cfw is only good for keeping the other os function.

still interested in seeing what geo does with his knoledge and how he is planing on releasing CFW as he said he will not distribute it but make a program for creating it so all the risk lies with the end user creating their own cfw.

Your theory sounds a lot like what I posted the page before this.

However look at it this way: most of the features we want on a "custom firmware" are actually features of the devkit/debug firmware. Change network environment to not use PSN? Built in. Burned games? Built in. Install .pkg files off a disc or flash drive? Built in. Rather than find a hole and recreate all this functionality, why not just use what Sony left around?

The functionality is there but it may not be the cleanest implementation, so at least its a good starting point.

This is 100% true, some have directly contacted us over the years while others just register and read the Forums with @scea, @scee, etc e-mail addresses. They are definitely out there though..

Sure cause God gave us the recovery, not Sony... they doesn't even know it exists, right ?

After that, and with this I'm NOT saying ps3news "IS" Sony, are you aware that Sony "could" have some employees harvesting the web for infos, including the whole ps3news site, just to keep their company up to date with the knowledge of how much are their backs covered ?

"Flip", no more usb-updates, "flip", no more divx, "flip", no more pictures, "flip", no more mp3, "flip", no more this, "flip", no more that, "flip", no more anything......

"Flip...." .... "Hey, look...!! A PS3 flying out of the window..." ...

Now look at it this way: how much do you pay for usenet? And do you get unlimited bandwidth for your usenet service? All the usenets i've been a part of had a monthly limit. Still that's 6 hours to download a game. Now how about those using torrents? How much time does it take to download and reseed a game?

I can pull down at about 2mb/s, but my upload is capped at around 150k, at that rate (max speed) I could pull a game in about 7 hours, but to reseed? Over 100 hours.

Now how about ripping and doing it that way? In theory one could rip PS3 games with the PS3 itself, thus eliminating the necessity to purchase a separate BluRay drive. Now run those games off the HDD or stream from a computer?

Then you're talking the cost of a game rental and the couple hours it takes to rip a game. And if you're renting the game then you're actually contributing (crazy, I know) to the industry you're blatantly stealing from.

Presumably you would be screwed if you updated to such a firmware before a custom version of it was made available. Also I would imagine that there would be plenty of advanced warning advising you against doing so.

For now it makes sense not to update your PS3 officially if you want to keep the system in a state most likely to be capable of being hacked.
