Video: PS3 TEST BD-Emulator in Action & More!

Sponsored Links
351w ago - We have had quite a few requests as to how the BD-Emulator on a PS3 TEST console works, and thought the best way to show how it works is through a video!

After formatting a USB HDD (in this case, a 500GB EIDE Drive hooked to the PS3 via an old USB CDROM enclosure) in the PS3, it is transferred to a PC. Once transferred, a properly decrypted, patched and remastered retail game is written to the drive. The drive is then plugged back in via USB to the PS3 TEST, while off.

The Drive is then turned on, followed by the PS3. Once the PS3 is on the BD-Emulator is set to USB. DEV is for a PS3 TOOL, which has an additional internal HDD for BD-Emulator purposes, and BD Drive is self explanatory. The PS3 then gets rebooted.

Upon reboot is where the video starts, it first shows the previous settings in the PS3, and then the game that was remastered, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is started from BD-Emulator. The BD-Emulator is transparent to the PS3 system, it is accessed and used just like any normal Blu-ray disc is.

The game is then started to the title screen, then is quit and exited back to XMB. Since it works just like a Blu-ray Disc, the BD-Emu isn't much to look at, but it does work great!

On another interesting subject, a resident PS3 Dev has successfully reversed the Debug Disc Layer of encryption, and extracted the Debug Encryption key. Unfortunately, as expected PS3 Retail discs use a different key. He calculated that it would take forever times infinity to pop the Retail key, as there are 2 ^ 128 possible keys.

Precisely, he also wrote a brute forcer for the same kind of key for XBox 360 and got it up to 2 million keys/second, and worked out it would *only* take 5395141535403007094485264.577495 years to guess it.

Even if we got 1 million people working on it full time, you could only divide that number by 1,000,000 so still a HUGE number indeed.

Later this week we will share our current progress with the 1.00 Debug Firmware, stay tuned!

I want to say thank you to CJPC for sharing the infos with us.

Now i have also a dev ps3 and as i was a new comer to the scene, years ago, i started with ripping off of ps2 games.I love to ripp games
I want to try out the BD Emulator and have a few question's:

To decrypt the executeable we could use known methodes like the retail itself?

And to quick test a game it must be on a hdd or does a 8GB flash pen also work?

Will this
n8ZH14lQr44
be importend in any case (e.g. key)?

Sounds a way to easy

EDIT: sry for that question's. After a little bit more reading your post's and playing around with the dev, i can understand few things more.

I am not sure if any are complete, some just appear to contain more files than the others.

I will have to dig through them this weekend and reply back.

can you give us a topsite example ?
where we can find the sdk 1.6 who are 209 and 214MB ?

Topsites are private SSL servers that release groups use to distribute their files to the masses. I can't give you any names of them as they are all private (and the leaks were on them last year, no idea if they still exist on any today as most don't archive such things).

I can probably post the file names of the leaks I have archived, but you would have to try hunting them down on your own. Chances are, it will be difficult unless you know someone on a topsite with them still or who can request them on one.

Update: I checked and none of the 1.6 leaks include the 1.6/1.8 compiler nor the required dtnetm file (which links the Debug and PC). However, there was also a 1.92 FULL $DK leak last year (CJPC reminded me of it tonight when speaking to him on this stuff) and the rar is called 192_sdk_full.rar (643MB) which contains PS3_SDK-192_001-Installer_1.0.MSI that includes everything needed. So in short, that is in public circulation and is probably what those out of the loop should be seeking at this time.

Finally, there was a 2.30 $DK docs leak that was 160MB (originating from Spanish Web sites apparently).

Upon that subject of installing Debug Firmware on Retail consoles, if you wish to do this, you run the risk of bricking your console, as i have. So beware....

it would be interesting if a full version can be find on torrent.. indeed a debug is necessary to use all functions of sdk

personnaly, if i can find the sdk full, i will try to find a ps3 debug test and it would be very interesting to have a better understand of software devlopment made by sony but the probleme of debug firmware still exist

indeed, i think it's very hard to find firmware debug after 2.20.

Correct, as it's the old 1.6 leak... from what I recall last year though, either the 1.6 with the 1.8 compiler/toolchain/etc was leaked (on some 'scene' topsites and among Elotrolado users if I recall correctly) or it was the full 1.8 $DK also.

I can dig through my archives to see which it was, if anyone is curious... perhaps that one didn't make it to torrents though. In any case, without a Debug PS3 it isn't of much use to most I imagine.

i think the sdk is watermarked, more simply, if the sdk is really leaked (full) and sony download it, he know who is leaked or leaker and i let think what the next for it.
